Bangalow’s Scout & Arrow

A treasure trove of bespoke heirloom pieces sourced from Sante Fe and showcased in a beautifully curated space in Bangalow: welcome to the new destination retail experience that is Scout & Arrow (S&A).

Located at 1/1 Station Street (around the corner from The Italian Diner), S&A was inspired after acclaimed interior designer Melinda Boundy travelled to New Mexico – and subsequently fell head over heels. “I have always loved the South Western, Ralph Lauren aesthetic and I wanted to bring that to life,” she explains. “I originally went to Santa Fe on a trip with a friend and fell in love with the energy and creatives who live there. On my second trip earlier this year, I was able to make connections with artisans and curate the perfect pieces for Scout & Arrow.”

Beautiful backstories embedded in each exquisite piece

Authentic Native American artefacts, turquoise jewellery and vintage cuffs, hand-dyed textiles and hats, and one-of-a-kind heirloom pieces – S&A is one of those spaces where you start oohing and aahing the moment you walk in the door.

One of Melinda’s favourite pieces is S&A’s collection of handcrafted serapes. “They are made from beautiful African hand-dyed indigo then travel to Santa Fe where they are then made into unique and sustainable works of art,” she explains. “The serapes are very versatile pieces of clothing and look perfect, either on their own or dressed up with some turquoise. You can wear them with your favourite pair of jeans, draped over a dress or thrown over your swimmers.”

When it comes to finding the perfect pieces, Melinda says she gravitates to the individual suppliers and the backstories that come with each creation. “All of my artisans in Santa Fe are over 60 years old and create everything from the heart,” she says. “I look for character, beautiful backstories and symbolism in each piece. In fact, everything that I choose for Scout & Arrow has a backstory and romance of their history.

“Scout & Arrow is about unique, one-off pieces that have not been seen before in Australia. We want our customers who visit our store to be an experience, not just a transaction.”
