Another clever initiative of the Brunswick Heads Chamber of Commerce, the annual Mullum2Bruns Paddle has become a major event on the North Coast community calendar. More than 600 entrants take to the water in a fleet of watercraft that includes kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, surf skis, dinghies and home-made boats. Only rule is they must be manually operated. The 10km stretch of water between Mullumbimby and Brunswick Heads is relatively unspoilt and passes an estuary that’s home to migratory seabirds that come as far away as Siberia. Thousands of dollars raised from the event are split between Brunswick Heads Visitor Centre, Brunswick Volunteer Marine Rescue and Brunswick Surf Club. Fun, fitness and feel-good – it doesn’t get better than that!
