Each year the hinterland village I’m honoured to call home hosts the Federal Park Party. Surrounding communities including Goonengerry, Rosebank and Coorabell join in to create a vibrant, eclectic gathering that includes food and market stalls, music and visual arts performances. Its biannual Sculpture by the Tree competition attracts artists from across the Northern Rivers and is curated by local artist Suvira McDonald who is a vocal advocate for public art around Byron Shire. (There are 16 pieces permanently on show throughout Federal Park.) Then there’s the dog show held every other year, which is a highlight on our family calendar.
